Loading fleet opened for e-lorries and PostBus
At the Swiss Post Cargo logistics center in Villmergen (Canton of Aargau), Swiss Post has built a charging park with 16 charging points. This is used by both Swiss Post Cargo and, in some cases, transport partners to load e-lorries. PostBus also uses it to charge electrically powered passenger buses. It is the largest charging station ever built by Swiss Post.

At the new Swiss Post Cargo logistics center in Villmergen, a large charging infrastructure has been implemented for electrically powered lorries and passenger buses. Both types of heavy goods vehicles will now be able to charge their batteries in the same place. In the current phase of expansion, a total of 16 charging points are available:
- Eight charging points are assigned to Swiss Post Cargo
- PostBus uses four charging points
- Another two charging points are permanently rented out to third-party customers
- two charging points are publicly accessible for third-party e-lorries
High-power fast charging devices
A transformer was built for the new charging infrastructure, as were two triple rectifier cabinets, each with a capacity of 600 kilowatts, to which all charging points are connected. The system, built by the energy supplier Repower, has a capacity of 160 kW per charging point. Both Swiss Post Cargo’s electric lorries and Postbuses are expected to charge their batteries overnight. During the day, third-party customers can benefit from fast charging options. Two liquid-cooled systems with a charging capacity of 400 kW each are available for such high-performance charging processes. They enable short downtimes. After just 45 minutes, an electric lorry reaches a charging level sufficient for a range of 250 kilometres and is ready to continue its journey. On the system itself, it is noticeable that the cable guides of the charging device run vertically. The cables can be pulled down and plugged into the relevant vehicle for charging processes. This means that Swiss Post is using a minimum amount of logistics space for the new infrastructure.
Efficiency and customer benefits
Shared use increases efficiency and ensures that the charging infrastructure is used to its full capacity – a key factor in our efforts to make logistics more sustainable. Decarbonization also provides added value for Swiss Post Cargo’s customers. We support them in achieving their own sustainability goals.
Swiss Post’s largest charging system for heavy electric commercial vehicles
With the construction of the charging depot in Villmergen, Swiss Post has one of the largest charging systems for heavy goods vehicles
Electric commercial vehicles in Switzerland. In addition to Vétroz and Untervaz, it is the third Swiss Post charging system that can be used by both lorries and Postbuses. All three locations can also be used by Swiss Post’s logistics partners, who can use e-lorries without having to build expensive charging infrastructure themselves.
