Sustainability in logistics

Innovative solutions for low-emission transport

For us, sustainability means taking responsibility – for the environment, the economy and future generations. We are systematically reducing our CO₂ footprint and pursuing the goal of reducing our emissions by around 90 percent by 2040. By 2030, at least 20 percent of the transport mileage of the company’s own vehicle fleet will already be covered with low emissions. With innovative technologies and optimized logistics processes, we are shaping a future where efficiency and environmental protection go hand in hand.

Benefits of sustainable logistics

  • CO₂ reduction

Thanks to low-emission vehicles and alternative drive systems, we are continuing to reduce our CO₂ emissions.

  • Eco-friendly transport

Combined transport saves on resources and minimizes our ecological footprint.

  • Reliable service

We offer environmentally friendly, reliable door-to-door solutions in the form of daily connections. Without any restrictions.

How we’re committed to sustainable logistics

We are actively working on numerous initiatives to achieve our sustainability targets:

  • Alternative drive systems in the vehicle fleet: use of trucks powered by electricity, hydrogen, gas and HVO, adapted to various areas of application.
  • Renewable energy: photovoltaic systems cover a large portion of our energy requirements, with surpluses fed into the local grid. This enables us to support regional production of eco-electricity.
  • Sustainable mobility: we promote eco-friendly mobility solutions for our staff. Our business travel is planned and performed in a climate-friendly way.
  • Resource management: we avoid waste, use efficient recycling solutions and operate an environmentally friendly returns management system.
  • Sustainable buildings: our business premises are efficient and sustainable. They are operated with technology such as LEDs, heat pumps and solar power.

Vehicle fleet

In our vehicle fleet, we are increasingly turning to alternative drive systems to replace fossil fuels. We start by testing different technologies to find the best solution for each transport area. Next, based on our experience, we choose which technologies to use in each area of operation. In doing so, we harmonize environmental and economic interests.

Energy supply

We power our charging infrastructure and business premises with solar and other renewable energy sources wherever possible. Our logistics center in Villmergen, for instance, generates over 1,300 MWh of solar power each year. Surplus electricity is fed into the local grid. This enables us to support regional production of eco-electricity. The building is also equipped with charging points for e-bikes and uses kinetic energy for lifts. In the immediate vicinity of the new logistics center, a total of 16 modern charging stations are available for heavy commercial vehicles. This is where we charge our own electric trucks for use in distribution.
