Swiss Post takes action against cyberattacks in Germany

Swiss Post is confronted with a cyberattack at the goods logistics division in Germany. Around 1,600 business customers using storage and transport services at Swiss Post Cargo Germany are affected. Swiss Post Information Security is working intensively with local experts to stabilize the systems. Swiss Post Cargo Germany is focusing on continuing operations for customers, even without the normal IT systems.

Systems and data affected – customers informed

Since last week, Swiss Post’s goods logistics division in Germany has been unable to access its IT systems, or only partially. Investigations show that a targeted cyberattack is the cause of the system failure. This will affect local logistics, accounting and HR systems of Swiss Post Cargo Germany. Due to the complexity of the business, the impact is most noticeable in the small consignments business. In addition, databases from the period 2020–2025 were stolen during the cyber attack. It cannot be completely ruled out that the attackers have also gained access to sensitive personal data. A report has been submitted to the relevant German data protection authority, and criminal charges have been filed. The system failure primarily affects around 1,600 business customers of Swiss Post Cargo Germany, who have been regularly informed by the relevant departments since the beginning.

Operating business is currently being stabilized

Swiss Post Cargo Germany is focussing on serving its customers without the use of normal IT systems. In order to ensure the best possible continuation of its operational business, Swiss Post Cargo Germany has, among other things, adapted its work processes as part of an established emergency concept and temporarily increased its headcount.At the same time, the IT experts at Swiss Post and Swiss Post Cargo are working intensively to restore the affected systems, put replacement systems into operation and protect the infrastructure against any further attacks even more comprehensively than before. Initial progress has been made in this regard, but a return to normal operations is not yet fully foreseeable.Swiss Post’s ICT infrastructures in Switzerland and other countries are not affected by the cyberattack.
