Special transport for heavy goods
Break bulk is suitable for special loads such as machines, plant components or steel products that require individual planning and processing due to their size, weight and shape. Swiss Post Cargo plans the appropriate transport chain and coordinates transport modes, special equipment, load securing, customs and international partners.
You send us the details of your load: dimensions, weight, center of gravity, packaging, collection location, destination, time slot, Incoterms and available documents.
We check the route, suitable transport modes, transshipment points, possible permits and suitable partners for your special cargo.
Our service is particularly suitable for international special loads that cannot be transported using standard means of transport:

Do you already have your transport details ready? Then send us your request using the contact form.
We tailor the right solution to your individual needs – including pre-carriage, transshipment, main journey, onward carriage and any interfaces between different transport modes.
We coordinate packaging, security concepts, loading and special handling with the partners involved.
We coordinate the relevant transport and customs documents, monitor processing and provide transparent information on the status through to delivery.
There is no standard solution for break bulk. We check which type of transport and route are suitable for each load. Decisive factors include dimensions, weight, center of gravity, packaging, time slot and special handling requirements.
Different solutions are possible depending on the load – for example, special trucks, special trailers, cargo aircraft or conventional sea freight. Combinations of different transport modes are also possible.
We coordinate pre-carriage, transshipment at suitable ports or terminals, international transport and onward carriage, ensuring that all the specialist partners involved work seamlessly together.
Large, heavy or unusually shaped goods have special packaging, loading and securing requirements. We take these into account at the planning stage and coordinate them along the transport chain.
We provide support with the relevant transport and customs documents and coordinate the necessary processes for international transport.
Break bulk transport is planned and calculated individually. Price and availability are based on factors such as the route, dimensions, weight, handling costs, required permits and desired scope of services. Contact us without obligation using our contact form.

What is meant by “project transport”?
Project transport is an individually planned and coordinated transport solution for large, heavy or logistically challenging goods. These include machinery, plant components, steel structures, heavy individual parts and exceptional project loads. Different transport modes, special vehicles, permits and loading concepts are combined depending on the load.
What is meant by “break bulk”?
Break bulk refers to bulk goods transported as a single loading unit in sea freight, rather than in a container. These include machinery, components, crates, bundles and palletized goods. Container solutions such as open top containers or flat racks and ro/ro transport services are not included.
What’s the difference between project transport and break bulk?
Project transport refers to the individual planning and coordination of a demanding transport solution involving one or more transport modes. Break bulk, by contrast, is a specific form of maritime transport. This means that break bulk can be part of project transport, but project transport doesn’t necessarily have to include break bulk and isn’t always carried out by sea.
